I work at a wastewater facility at a state correctional institution. While I was on break recently some contractors working at the plant(we are in the middle of a major upgrade)spotted what they described as a totally black snake with a brownish stripe down it's back. They also said it had a brownish belly. One of the guys was dragging it toward him with a stick to keep it out of the weeds while he got a pic on his cell phone. He never got a pic and the snake got away! Can a melanistic eastern have a visible stripe?? Thanks! Jeff
