Getting to this topic really late, but it caught my eye as I'm also in New England. You could also look on Craigslist and Freecycle. Unfortunately, Freecycle leaves it up to each group's moderator to decide whether or not to allow animals to be "recycled". Ugh, so horrible.
If you have no luck there, Bonnie Keller of Va. Reptile Rescue does ship animals. You may need to wait until summer because of the lovely cold nights we have, but I can tell you that she is a wonderful rescuer who really cares about her animals and puts their welfare first. I got my ball python from her 7 years ago (when I lived in VA). Her website is www.vareptilerescue.org.
