I had two extremely large healthy eggs on the 8th of this month. Day 60 was the 13th. I went away for a few days and had someone keeping an eye on them. On the 13th they had shriveled up considerably and become slightly discolored. The next day they still had not hatched and did not look very good. I have seen another clutch look very dead just before hatching successfully, so I hoped maybe they were okay. Within there next couple of days they became moldy, so I cut them open. Both babies were fully developed and had completely absorbed all of their yolk.

What happened?

The shells were very thick, is is possible they were too tough for the little guys to break through?

I don't think it was an incubation problem because there are 8 more eggs in the same container, and they are all fine.

If thick shells are a problem, should I try cutting the next two as soon as they look ready to hatch?
