Hey, I know this is a late responce but I haven't been to the kingsnake forums in Awhile and jut saw your post. Your 45gal would work till the little guy is about 6-8 inches long, by that time you'll have to upgrade the tank. If your getting a hatchling, you shouldn't really have more then a foot of water, and you would need plenty of things for the musk to grab onto and rest near the surface. They are mainly aquatic but mine likes to bask. However in the beginning I didn't use a basking platform, every week or two I'd take my litle guy out and put him in a bucket with a towel under a MV light. And where to get one, well they aren't to many people that have them available at the moment but a good place to get yours is the turtle source, they have very nice animals.
