If the 2 eggs that were in the laying container that might explain why she laid outside it. They will also do this if there is something wrong with the egg or if it is a first year breeder.I personally only use straight vemiculite that is nice and moist and have never had a problem. I don't do any measuremants I just use my spray bottle and add water until when I squeeze it together like a snowball it sticks together but does not drip water. Hope this helps
