Hi John,

I was given the Nature Zone diet one year as a Christmas present by well-meaning relatives. Most of my box and wood turtles didn't like it. The desert box turtles ate it, but they'll eat anything.

My main problem with it is the following; if you place a moist, nutrient rich food item out at room temperature and it does not begin to spoil, it must be loaded with preservatives. It also has a very, very strange chemical-type smell.

I'm not as picky as some when it comes to what I will offer my box turtles, but I have made the decision to feed more fresh food items, and I have actually modified the gelatin-based food recipe found in Russ Gurley's book for box turtles. If you'd like an easy to feed gelatin-based food, I would recommend trying to make your own.

Hope this helps.
