Depends on the snake. I have one that likes to sit in a fake tree 95% of the time. Some sit on top of the substrate more than under. But as a rule the majority of mine you can expect to see a head at most while they sit and wait at their ambush hole.

Their positives are their hardiness, ease of care, and handlability. My 4 year old and 6 year old boys get them out of the cage and play with them all the time without incident for the snake, kids or parents! Good snakes.
