What Type of Micro Lens?

I've been looking at micro lens to purchase for a cannon 50D. I really don't want one of the super large ones because they require a tripod and apparently are slow to focus.



Does anyone use a micro lens to take shots of their snakes and if so which one(s) do you recommend?
