How can I be sure my ornate is dead?

I think my ornate is dead. He spent several days lying in the same position, never moving a muscle This is not unusual. It had gone on long enough that I became worried, though. Ipicked him up, and he was limp. He did not respond at all. His eyes were closed.

I moved him. Again he didn't move for several days. I shined a 160W lamp on him for several hours. Nothing happened.

I am fairly sure that he's gone, but this is a reptile. How do I know that he's not just deeply brumating? It's a long shot, I know. But for my own peace of mind, I want to be sure.
