I have four 08 pyros, two males and two females. Their first winter I didn't brumate them but fed them all winter. This last winter they more or less brumated themselves, seeking out the cooler spots in their habitats and not eating, but drinking water once in awhile. In February they began to wake up. The females woke up first, then one of the males, but the other male who I call my mini snake took longer. Now he is catching up with the others and I expect this year will even come close to the same size as everyone else.

An acquaintance who has been raising pyros for almost 20 years says he had one male hatchling born in September which did not eat until the following August, 11 months! He thought the little guy was going to die; he even put a lizard in with the snake but eventually the lizard outgrew the snake as a food item and they became "room mates". But once he started eating he did fine. Now 13 years later this snake is the biggest one in his collection.
