I am a long time herper, but I've never posted on here b/c I am mainly a colubrid guy(Pituophis and a few corns), but I've recently gotten gecko fever(keeps my herp appetite supressed while snakes are hibernating!

Anyway, after trying several things, I decided to switch to tile as I had some leftover from when I did remodeled my upstairs bathroom and put in a new bath in my basement. I've had it in my female cage for a while now and today switched the males to it, too. I have to say I love it so far - no worrying about ingestion, it cleans really easily, and it looks pretty good, I think. I use a diamond tile blade/disc on an angle grinder to cut it - pretty simple to do. The tile blades/discs are pretty pricey($25 ), so if you don't already have one, it might seem a little steep. If you have a fairly steady hand, you can cut it(eventually) with a masonry disc instead, but it takes forever and more likely to chip it.

I made the smallest piece on the side where they go to the bathroom(front right corner) so that it will be easy to take out if I ever need to clean it really good, although you can keep it pretty clean with just a spray bottle of cleaning soluton and paper towels. The only drawback is now there is space under the big basking rocks for food to hide under, which isn't as much of an issue for my male - food barely hits the floor and it's gone. The female isn't as efficient of an eater - I imagine the albinos' vision isn't as good - I've noticed that with the snakes. I suppose I could grind the bottom of the rocks flat with the angle grinder, too - maybe I'll get around to that eventually.

BTW, in case you're wondering why the cages are so big, I plan on getting maybe 2 more females, and maybe just pairing up one per year with the male, so the cages will each have two in them most of the time. The male is a HCT(or maybe a non-baldy SHCT?) and the female is a tangerine bell albino from JMG. of course, she is clouding up to shed, so I didn't bother getting any great pics of her. I'm still trying to decide what else to get - probably a really bright SHCT female, and something totally different, maybe a nice R/Aptor or something.
