The breeders are not kept in the dark. They are usually in natural marsh environments. Only the animals raised for hides/meat are kept in the dark. This helps reduce stress and promotes growth.
That being said UVB in my experience is simply not necessary for the raising of healthy animals if your diet contains the proper supplements. ----- CDieter 'Reason, observation, and experience; the holy trinity of science.'
