all snakes are different. some eat while going into, or already in shed, some will not. i never recommend feeding while even early in shed. the reason, is that during the shed process, the snakes body goes into almost shut down mode. metabolism slows way way down, and little gastro-intestinal motility. it is possible to have a prey item sit in the stomach to long and potentially not digest properly in time, and may cause bacterial infections. also, i would get it on rats as early as you can.
