I know I am new around here, but I do have experience with a good many types of lizards. I know you are not looking for an herbivore or omnivore, but for someone else who may be I would recommend a nice CB Blue-Tongue. In my opinion Blueys are half the work of a beardie and twice the fun, personality, and intelligence. This aside though, I'm thinking of a few lizards specifically for you. First up is an Ackie (Varanus acanthurus). Ackies have tons of personality, are endlessly entertaining, and are one of the easiest monitors to take care of. Of course the folks over on the monitor forum can help you out with your Ackie questions more than I can. Another choice would be an ameiva of some type, my favorite is the green ameiva. Check out the article in this months Reptiles Magazine for more info. Finally, my favorite group of lizards (other than skinks) would have to be the Anguidae. This group includes alligator and European legless lizards, both great fun in captivity. These animals are often a bit more difficult to keep indoors; legless require a good bit of space and alligator lizards are prone to NSHP without proper lighting. I know I am a bit late in responding, but please let me know if any of these ideas are helpful or if there are other species you are thinking of.
