I live in the Midwest where Blue Racers are native. Some are quite slaty blue while others are more brown, a few are just plain brown. The animal in the photo was about as blue as they come. About as defiant, too - he made me pay for picking him up.

My fellow Blue Racer watchers and I have been fortunate enough to see a few each year. I do not collect them but speaking as a person who appreciates snakes, seeing wild Blue Racers is a great experience. Well-grown adults are very large, over five feet, and massive. I keep a few Southern Black Racers and coachwhips, all cb, and I feed them as often as they are hungry. If racers and coachwhips have access to well-vented basking sites they keep their body temps around 90 F most of the time. With their metabolism maintained at that level they eat several times a week. I find that well-kept racers and coachwhips are powerful, massive animals, like the wild Blue Racers I see.

I have seen cb hatchlings offered by Glades Herp in the past. They may offer some late this summer--interested people can contact Glades and see if any of their vendors are breeding Blues this year.
