In breeding condition, male frogs have shorter fatter "thumbs" (innermost finger on front legs) and females have elongate thumbs. Females tend to be more reddish in color, and are usually noticeably larger. Hard to tell if you only see one or two frogs - this comes from sexing hundreds of wood frogs.
