Gravid or not?

Hello!
I wonder if a collared lizard femelle show her nice orange colors, really means that she is gravid or impregnated? Because sometimes my collared shows the orange and then she lose the color without laying eggs! Does anybody have a idea about that!? Can she just show orange when she is ready (mature)? Sorry if you don't understand my english... i speak french! Thank you for your help!
