It's been a while since I've been on the KS forums. So, I figured I'd drop some pics of my "volunteers" for my venom research that I am doing at the Metropolitan State College of Denver.











And some pics of a big male, ~48" in length, I pulled out of someone's yard after it bit their dog. Gave him a few days to heal at my place, after he was whacked by a shovel, before milking him and setting him loose.

Here he is when I got him home, all covered in blood. Thankfully, they didn't hurt him too bad with the shovel. Nothing a few days under a heat lamp couldn't fix.


Here he is being milked by me the day before he was set loose.


And here he is finally on a Sunday morning, being set loose out on the Eastern Plains, far away from anyone who might want to whack him with a shovel.



Hopefully he ends up siring a million little rattlers!

It's been a fun summer so far, milking all these Prairies. And each of those animals has a pretty good story to go with it. And I have a lot more to do before I have all the venom I need for my research. Yeah, I know, most researchers buy their venom. What can I say, I'm a double major in biology and chemistry, it can't all be benchwork, or it wouldn't be fun!
