Based on field measurements, the average adult size range for C. cerastes is 20 to 24 inches for females, with males being considerably smaller. The record size for this species is for a female captured in south central Morocco that measured 32 inches.

C. vipera is even smaller, with females rarely exceeding 16 inches. The record for this species is a 20 inch female from northeast Libya.
