The percentage is important for understanding how much of the original 'rufescens' blood is in the animal. The sire to these babies was a pure (100%) rufescens purchased several years back. He was a baby produced from the original pair. The dame was a 75% rufescens that was purchased at the same time.
Unfortunately, most people don't keep good records of where their animals come from and a lot of animals sold as 'pure' are NOT. Most dealers now consider anything that is solid colored (or nearly so) to be pure. I still use the percentages because I know the history of my animals. Is it important? Only to some people.
