>>if i have many snakes it would be way better... >>what about feeding babies ?
I have bred mice when I had 20-30 snakes and have just bought frozen mice with the same size colony.
What I found was that breeding mice is boom and bust. You either have hundreds of babies born in a week or you have none. So if you need babies/fuzzies/hoppers I found myself freezing the extras when I had them to get me through times when I didn't have enough. That's when I realized it was a lot less time intensive to just buy them frozen.
Before you set up your mouse colony, figure out how many of each sized mouse you will need per week (or month). Then figure out how many breeding females you will need to produce that many and how long you will have to raise the offspring to get them up to the appropriate size. It is tough to balance the number and size you need when you need them. For example, it can be tough to have small pinkies every week for a few weeks when your snake's babies are born.
That said, I love breeding mice and if I had room, I would certainly be doing it just for the fun of it. It isn't an efficient way to feed a snake colony, but it is fun.
