The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium opened a contest Wednesday, Dec. 3 to name its newest reptile.
The zoo acquired a 200-pound, 18-foot python Nov. 16 from a private breeder. The new python is the daughter of Fluffy, the zoo's record-setting python who suddenly died two months ago.
The zoo opened the name contest online Wednesday, Dec. 1, asking its Facebook fans to choose. Facebook users can make suggestions on the zoo's page (facebook.com/columbuszoo) until Monday, Dec. 7.
The zoo will choose three finalists and post them on Facebook Dec. 10. The name with the most votes by 9 a.m. Dec. 17 will win, and the person who suggested the name will get four Gold Memberships to the zoo and Zoombezi Bay.
Since the contest opened Dec. 3, hundreds of Facebook users have come up with names for the snake. They include Sloopy, Cuddles, Jungle Jackie, Puffy and many more.
Names will get entered once, and the first person to suggest the name will get credit.
The new python is kept in the zoo's Asia Quest region. www.snponline.com/articles/2010/12/03/multiple_papers/news/allzoocont_20101203_0310pm_3.txt
