PATTYA DAILY NEWS (Thailand) 03 December 10 Norwegian Man Presumed Killed By Pet Cobra Snake
Pattaya: At 1.00 pm Pattaya Police Investigator police Lieutenant Colonel Samran was notified that a foreign man had died in his room under mysterious circumstances. A police team and the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were sent to the New Nordic Hotel, Soi 4, Phratamnuk Road, Moo10, Banglamung to investigate.
In room 212 on the second floor of the 3-storey building, they found the dead body of Norwegian national Mr. Per Christian Lindgaard lying naked on the bed. There was a foul stench from the body, and officers discovered dark blister wounds on both his legs. There was no sign of a struggle, and the man was presumed to have been dead for a few days.
The investigation at the scene was suddenly interrupted as a one metre long Cobra appeared on the end of the bed causing officials and the press to run in all directions. An officer subsequently fetched some equipment and within 20 minutes the snake was captured to be released later to its natural habitat.
Photos were later found taken of the deceased with several kinds of snakes.
A hotel maid, Mrs. Orranut Prasitan from Chiyaphoom, told police that Mr. Lindgaard was a business man from Norway. He had recently bought the cobra from a foreign friend to take care of in his room. A little while ago the snake bit him, causing Mr. Lindgaard to receive hospital treatment, but he had returned, recovered, to the hotel and seemed fine. However nobody had seen him for a few days so Mrs. Prasitan went to his room and knocked on the door. There was no answer, so she got the key from the manager, and on opening the door she saw the foul, bloated body on the bed.
Police assume that Mr. Lindgaard died from the snake bite, but this will be confirmed by autopsy.
