SIN CHEW JIT POH (Malaysia) 07 January 11 Chameleons that help sell Chinese ointment (Translated by Lim Liy Ee)

Bentong, Pahang: Wu Wen Cai came all the way from Pudu, Kuala Lumpur to the Bentong market to sell the ointment that would help relieve injuries and rheumatic pains. Nevertheless, the biggest attraction at his makeshift stall was not his ointment but the two chameleons that were nearly three feet long.

Wu said these two chameleons had been bought at RM150 each and raised by him personally. The older chameleon was named Albert, 11, while the 6-year-old younger reptile was named Robert.

These two chameleons were originally from South America. As Wu has been raising the chameleons since they were very young, they were very well behaved and obedient.

Albert was even seen nodding his head vigorously when his master was praising him.

"On the contrary, if I say something bad about him, he will get mad and ignore me. Last week I just hit him lightly and he ignored me for the following ten days!” said Wu.

"These two chameleons are tame and do not attack humans. They are vegetarians and their favourite food is cabbage." Wu will cut the cabbage into smaller pieces to feed them.

Wu feels that his life has become more relaxing with his two pets keeping him company whenever he is selling the ointment.

He showed Sin Chew Daily the permit issued by the authorities to prove that it was legal to keep the two chameleons.
