Hi,

I'm from the UK and I have a group of four captive bred chucks and a pair of wild caught chucks. Pricing over here even for wild caught is around £120.00 - £140.00, not sure about in America.

The reason you won't have seen any up for adoption is due to the fact that they are fairly hard to come by in the UK and America, plus they are really nice lizards so people will have few reasons to get rid of them.

Your vet is correct they make fantastic pets, however as I have both wild caught and captive bred I'm in a good position to tell you if you want a nice pet you must! get a captive bred chuck. The reason I say that is because my captive bred chucks are very friendly and I rarely have to pick them up as they come over to me and jump on me, they are lovely. My wild caught chucks on the other hand don't like me much at all, I can't get any where near the female before she runs off, my male is much more approachable but even so he's not keen and will run off, and these are long term captives.

I can't really think of any major problems you could have as long as you set them up right I'd say they are fairly easy to keep. So in a nut shell I would say go for it but as I said if you want a nice pet a captive bred chuck is a must.

Hope this helps.
Martin
