I'm wanted to verify my calculation of the proper dosage of a 250mg/5ml Flagyl suspension for a thayeri with those more experienced with this procedure. By my caculations the dosage is so small it seems it would be difficult for me to measure.
First I see a recommended dosage for tricolors should not exceed 40mg/kg. I'm going to treat a thayeri, so thought I'd stay below this recommendation. I calculated for a dose of 30mg/kg. Is this adequate?
Assuming it is: for the 161g snake I calculate 4.83mg of Flagyl. So adjusting for the 250mg/5ml suspension solution I calculate that I would need 0.096ml of that solution, which seems tiny. My oral dosing syringe has increments of 0.2 ml, so I would only need about 1/2 of one of those increments? Does that sound about right? If so, that is not much more than the volume of the inside of the needle itself!
If the calculations are correct, is it recommended to further dilute the solution with water to get a more accurate measurement? Or I suppose I could get a smaller syringe.
