I ad thhe same luck last week with a found hatchling. Outdoors is always better than an indoor set up in my opinion. Nothing beets natural sunlight, fresh air, outdoor bugs, and like you said rotten logs and leaf litter. I also feel you will have beeter luck getting that little one of to a good start outdoors.
