robyn, thanks for the idea and pic. i will definitely keep that in mind i wonder how i could do that with a naturalistic looking setup and still have ease of cleaning?

phldypayne, thank you as well for your advice i do have a hand made cage. will enclose a pic. this one is 4'x2'x2' it is made out of melamine and has ventilation in the back pannels. don't mind the mess. lol i need to clean it out. i had snakes in it for years. i rehomed my snakes and am looking to set up possibly a beardie in the top level and either fatties, collards, or uros in the middle. another beardie for sure though. i like leaving the bottom level for storage. i also like to have my enclosures set up and running properly well before i start critter shopping. this isn't my first go around in the reptile world, but i am always seeking to learn and come up with better/easier/more efficient ways.

anyway, i will experiment with the lights. i would like to mount them inside for the reasons you mentioned of less heat required and ect... hoping it will be less heat expelled out of the cage as well...
