Ok, I'm a nut for seeing snakes and more like most herpers.. what REALLY flips my switch is seeing herps out in nature doin' their stuff..

.

Today and the last couple of days have been among the most enjoyable times out in the field of my entire life.. First.. these Coniophanes are locally common.. but how many do you see out in the open in daytime? Four in one morning? It must be a breeding season-thing.

.

.

.

.

.. and again.. an Emory's rat (scrub rat) .. poking around in the palm forest litter.. a rare sight! I have the Green Jays to thank.. they were mobbing it.

.

.

.

.. and the holy grail of Texas snakes .. Drymobius margaretiferus .. I show lots of pics of these.. but it ain't easy! .. and to see an ovulating female resting above-ground in the forest.. that's the brass ring!

.

.

.

.. now, I have not seen one of these YET this season.. But with the days I'm having, I'm hopeful!

.

Have a really great day!

.
