Some of the cost are varibale like cages (store bought, custom made, made by you ect).
The food diet is the main reaccuring event. I feed a large variety of foods and have never hand issues with sheding or wieght. I trade off with rodents (which being a snake person will have little effect on you) turket, talapia, fruites, and then some frozen whole ground animals intended as a dog food mix in. Before people harp on me these are literally human grade foods just marketed to animals, example the rabbit i feed is a whol dressed rabbit that went through a grinder, nothing added. I'd say my food bill right now for two tegus (one adult and one still growing) is about oh 35 to 40 dollars. I stock up so its one large expense but i dont have to pay for the rest of the year almost. Other parts of thier diet i take from my own food, things like fruits and fish and chicken are all things i intend to eat i just set aside a portion for them.
Baby tegus are the more expensive animals to feed. Alot of people feed their young tegus mainly turkey, but i high recomend turkey as a supplement and stick with inscents that are dusted.
