I've had a few Gulf Salties for several years, red and normal color phases. If they are paired in the same enclosure they mate every year with babies out in late August for me, probably around that time for most. Litters here are small, usually six babies. When my red male mated with my red female, all the babies were reds. When my black male mated with her, three of the babies were black and three were red.

My adults eat defrosted minnows and defrosted pink mice rubbed with minnow, presented on forceps. Newborns will eat tiny fish placed live into their water dish or presented on forceps, and will soon take defrosted fish of appropriate size from forceps. Gulf Salties are small snakes, my adults are around 20 inches long and don't seem to be getting any larger.

This species seems determined to survive in captivity, unlike some of the other species I work with, most of which are conspiring to give me a heart attack.
