I was wondering if anyone has insight into how you could calculate a turtles food requirements from its body weight. I work at an Environmental Ed center and we have quite a large collection of herps. I have been guesstimating how much to feed each individual animals by looking at their body mass, age and appetite and appearance. For some of my turtles I could put food in front of them all day long and they would continue to eat and eat. I want to make sure all my animals stay at a healthy weight and we are not overfeeding.

For example: our one of our Yellow Belly Pond slider is 700 grams, we are currently feeding him 5 grams 3 times a week. Which if I have done my calculations correctly is about 2% of his body weight a week. Does this sound reasonable?
