Garter or Ribbon?

I took these photos in April of last year and it's been bothering me since. It was about 5 or 6 inches and in a pile of dead leaves in Dallas County, Texas. Is it a Texas garter snake or a fat western ribbon snake? Unfortunately, these are the only two photos I have of this snake.
