My advice is to think of what is best for the species you are keeping. Snakes that are terrestrial and spend most of their time underground will do great in racks as long as the box size is reasonable (not too small). This means kingsnakes, milksnakes, ball pythons, rosyboas, etc.
Corns will be fine in racks but will utilize a cage with some climbing opportunity especially if heated from above. I think it is nice to have that for those types of snakes (ratsnakes, boas, some python species, etc).
One nice thing about racks is that it is often easier to control a nice range of humidity in them. ----- Antaresia maculosa Antaresia childreni
