Generally extra fluid in the eye is described as the eyes getting bigger. That's easier to respond to. With sinking eyes, it could be a problem with vitrous production or local paralysis. It could also be a more systemic problem, related to dehydration or emaciation but I'd suspect you would see signs of this already.
