A lot of cities have laws against them. I know in Dodge City, Kansas they ban all Varanids, even the small ones, claiming they are all extremely dangerous. Ackies have taken the lives of far too many people....lol. In Garden City, Kansas (where I'm from, about an hour west of Dodge) they ban "all poisonous lizards" which they might include Varanids, but were aimed at Heloderma. Thankfully they weren't smart enough to realize that Heloderma are venomous instead of poisonous. They ban all constricting snakes over 8 feet long, but allow birds. So technically you can keep an ostrich, but not a large boa (I've seen it once, and they say keeping lizards is weird). Gotta love politicians who govern with fear instead of knowledge
