My male is usually the first out from hibernation, and he paces, and goes around the enclosure constantly, until the females come up. I think that they are looking to mate as soon as they get up and are searching for a female. In the wild they would be traveling and searching. Here they can only go as far as their enclosure. That's the only thing I can think of.
