"excelsior" is slightly finer than the "aspen" bedding type. Either would be fine for snakes. It's also shredded cross grain, not planed wood chis. Wholesale $8 a bag or so if you buy a lot of the 32 pound bag. But if you call maybe you can find someone close that gets it shipped and pick up a few bales/bags.
