Tail length can vary from animal to animal, and males tend to have longer tails than females. That's my guess. The length of many reptiles are also measured snout to vent, rather than to the tail for the same reason.
The band counts on those pyros are huge, well into the knoblochi range. I also haven't seen too many pyros where the white bands are wider than combined width of the red and black. Very unique.
