Got careless putting my adult male Everglades rat into a Sterilite to feed him. He got a bead on my left pinky finger and latched on, coiling as if he was killing a woodchuck. He's six feet long and managed to handcuff both my hands when I tried to use my right hand to pry him off my left hand. One of those "hmmm" moments. No real difficulty breaking his hold and by then he realized the morsel in his mouth was not what he expected and me go so I could finish leaking.

Interestingly, no discomfort once he let go and the bleeding stopped, and no soreness afterward although my finger looks like a Maori tattoo. Despite being handled rather more assertively than usual, the snake ate his rat without a second thought--rat snakes; they're all hungry hungry hippos.

I look at the bright side--at least it wasn't an adult yellow tailed cribo.
