Hi, you haven`t said what type of fluorescent tube you mean but I`ll assume UVB? If you want to provide your monitor with that type of illumination you can always hang the fixture/tube lower, and there are certain types that do provide sufficient levels of UVB at greater distances. You could also fit a reflector to the tube which will extend the distance.
I`d like to point out though that the fact is providing the conditions support the animal; proper basking temps, humidity range, a deep substrate, a whole prey only diet, UVB is not required to keep them in good health, long lived and productive. That`s been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt for many generations and species.
