I was told albinos are a weak gene, but that Lucistic animals don't have weak genes but just lack color in scales, and there were experiments that showed when the proper color chromosome was injected into the scale of an albino Diamondback the scale accepted the color and changed to the proper color,(orange back to black) but when tried with the lucistic snake's scale it rejected color, stayed white. I think the original solid white pine was a true freak of nature just like the two female lucistic EDRs that were found in Alachua Co.
