Masturbating Iguana

I don't keep any reptiles right now but when I had my Iguana a few years ago he would masturbate on his perch. I was worried about his hemipenes being damaged on the wood so I gave him a cotton T-shirt on recommendation from another herper and he switched to that. I never saw this behavior in my other reptiles like monitors or geckos.



Just thought it was kind of funny. He was very healthy and not around any females. He was one of those feisty, macho males who likes to whip their owner randomly for fun or if he didn't want to be put back in his cage.



I wonder if they ever include this thing about making cotton t-shirts available to males in Iguana how-to manuals these days. It seems kind of important. Then again maybe I just had a weird iguana.
