garters, ribbons, and rough greens might provide what you are looking for. small, pretty, active, and if they happen to bite they will only leave the tiniest of scratches.

i've always wanted a large natural looking vivarium with 1-2 red stripe ribbons, 1-2 albino garters, and 1-2 rough greens, and a large pool of water with some small cheap fish swimming around to make a snack for the garters and ribbons. i think it would look really cool.
