I share the exact same experience with my pair of Kingsvilles. Much larger than average eggs, resulting in much larger than average hatchlings.
This may be an adaptation to a marginal environment, as larger hatchlings are capable to exploit a wider range of prey items. Just an educated guess, for what it's worth. ----- I'm Dutch. Somebody shoot me.
