Lethargic or ready for brumation?

My one year old male bearded dragon just recently became very lethargic. About a week ago, he had a large bowel movement and then moved to cooler end of his tank and began digging around his hide spot. He then spent the bulk of the week there, more or less asleep (or appearing to be asleep). I took this as a sign that he was ready to brumate, so I adjusted the amount time his lights were on during the day from 12 hours to 8 hours and now he has moved from the cooler side of the tank over to directly under the light on the warm side of the cage. He did eat a little bit a day ago. He still seems pretty lethargic and more or less asleep just now underneath the light under the warm end of the cage.

Should I change the light schedule back to 12 hours? Was he not ready to brumate?

I appreciate any help/advice.

Thanks
