AUSTRALIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION 12 November 13 Study to determine threatened frog numbers
A group of researchers will spend the next few months hunting for an endangered frog species in northern Victoria.
The contractors will spend their nights in the Koondrook, Murrabit and Kerang areas listening for the distinctive call of the growling grass frog.
Goulburn-Murray Water's Daniel Irwin says the authority wants to know how large and widespread the population is.
"So they utilise a number of water bodies, so you can find them anywhere from swamps, farm dams, channels or drains," he said.
"They sort of move between those sorts of water bodies quite frequently.
"Certainly during the warmer months they're at their most active.
"Any time between now and sort of October, November through to February, March is the time we most expect to see them on the move."
