SUNSHINE COAST DAILY‎ (Maroochydore, Australia) 04 December 13 Python puts on a private performance (Nicole Fuge)
Karine Wilson has formed a motherly bond with a visiting carpet python.
Ms Wilson noticed the snake last week under her Buderim home and rang Australia Zoo to have it relocated, but closer observation revealed the python was expecting.
"It's very interesting," Ms Wilson said.
"I've been observing her, but I want to leave her in peace."
Ms Wilson said the python had been sunning herself, before retreating to her makeshift home and wrapping herself around the eggs to transfer the heat.
She said the python had about 30 eggs, which would hatch in 30 to 60 days.
"It's quite amazing I have the chance to see that," she said.
"Sometimes she does show me - it's beautiful to see her relax, see her yawning."
Ms Wilson said Australia Zoo had told her the python could not be relocated until after her eggs hatched.
"She will die trying to go back to her eggs if she's moved," she said.
"Only carpet snakes stay and do this - they're very protective.
"What worried me at first was I don't want to have 30 pythons running around my place, but they said not to worry, the hatchlings will go."
Ms Wilson said, sadly, only six or seven of the babies would survive.
