Monitors do not require specific care sheets. They also do not respond well to caresheet husbandry.



In a nutshell. They are behavioral and what they require is to do their own thing. Much like Tegus, but not exactly.



All they require is heat, security, humidity, and tons and tons of food.

To breed them, is all about behavior, they are highly social, which also means, very picky about what other animals are included in their social group. Much like all social groups.



No need to brumate, cycle, cool, rain, none of that. Just let them pick normal active reptile temps and pay attention to ethology.



The key to breeding them is nesting. Unlike tegus, they do not make a surface nest. They dig deep(two feet plus) nests and if prevented, normally die from reproductive complications. Nesting is indeed the hard part(not that hard, just work)



So if your looking for a single animal, get a male. That eliminates reproductive complications.



If your wanting to produce them, buy groups of babies and raise them together. That's by far the most successful approach. The key is, if your husbandry supports rapid growth, then it will support reproduction, all but nesting. Best wishes and good luck
