Many people use cypress for snakes, especially snakes that require moderate or higher humidity.



When completely dry, cypress can get dusty too, but the dust is typically at the bottom. If you keep the cypress slightly moist, dust does not get airborne. Good stuff.



I like ground coco husk, aka coir fiber or eco earth. It is light-weight, holds humidity. Even when dry, it is not dusty, but it does get into the water bowl, which is not harmful at all but just annoying. I put snakes on this during the drier months to keep a better handle on the humidity. I prefer it to cypress because my rack system is plastic, and I do not want to weigh down the tubs too much. For the amount I use in tubs, coir is noticeably lighter in weight compared to cypress. Plus, no shards. To each their own. I know that snakes would do well on either. Aspen makes me sneeze sometimes as well. To my knowledge, I don't sneeze around cypress or coir.
